Our story
From Skating Basics to Competitive Play: Building a Legacy in Youth Hockey
Founded in 1981, New Rochelle Lightning Hockey (NRLH) has grown into a dynamic youth hockey program. With a dedicated team of parents, volunteers, and coaches, NRLH has evolved over the years, providing a supportive environment where boys and girls learn to skate and master the game of hockey. Our commitment to affordability means we offer one of the most cost-effective programs in the region, making hockey accessible to all.
In 2012, we rejoined the Hudson Valley Hockey League, and by 2013-14, we were fielding our first Bantam team since our program's resurgence in 2006. That same year, the New York Rangers awarded us the RangersAssist grant, helping us supply free loaner gear to kids trying out the sport. In another proud moment, our Peewee team took home the HVHL Peewee B division title.
NRLH continued to thrive, with our Squirts making a semifinal run in the 2014-15 HVHL Squirt A1 division and expanding to two Peewee teams in the 2015-16 season.
Today, New Rochelle Lightning Hockey offers a full range of programs, from our Learn To Play initiative, in partnership with the NHL and NY Rangers, to competitive teams for players up to the 18U level. Our mission remains clear: to nurture a passion for hockey while helping young players grow and compete at their best.
